  Imagine the family curled up in blankets, the ocean's waves pounding against the bluff, a roaring fire before you, and a butler at your beck and call. The Half Moon Bay resort is perhaps best known for its dozens of private fire pits on guest terraces and patios. The fire and wine butler pulls up in a specially-outfitted golf cart to assist with fire lighting, to offer outdoor wine service, and to provide all the fixings for s'mores for kids and kids at heart. On weekends, a bagpiper plays outside, transporting those who hear him to the mystic Scottish highlands.

  Whether you prefer a private lesson or a group experience, the Half Moon Bay golf links give families the option to receive lessons for 9- or 18-hole sessions or to receive off-site instruction at the ocean view driving range. Be sure to ask about other activities like bocce ball tournaments, “horse race” games, or a drive-in movie with golf carts.
• It's the Great Pumpkin
  If you happen to find yourself in Half Moon Bay during October, you're in luck! You're at the World Pumpkin Capital, where they celebrate an annual Art & Pumpkin Festival, including a special display of heavyweight champion pumpkins, a haunted house that will scare you out of your gourd, and the Great Pumpkin Parade. Non-stop live music, pumpkin-infused treats and hearty autumnal foods make this the event of the season!
• Join the Club
  Kids ages 5 to 12 will be raring to go exploring on the beach, swimming at the Colony Club pool, playing tennis, golf, soccer, volleyball or basketball with the Ritz Kids full- or half-day program. While parents enjoy a nice quiet meal, kids get their own supervised special dinner and a movie, along with arts and crafts projects, and s'more making by the fire pits. Guests staying on the club level of the hotel will find the lounge the perfect place to unwind and sample continuous culinary offerings throughout the day, such as the cookie bar.
