This Ritz-Carlton is the first AAA Five Diamond hotel in Lake Tahoe. Nestled mid-mountain on Northstar Resort, room furnishings reflect a Northern California contemporary design.  While the location high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and proximity to the largest alpine lake in America make this an ideal vacation destination for any time of year. The Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe embodies rustic luxury, whether you are cozying up in the fresh mountain air next to an outdoor fire pit, enjoying the breathtaking valley view with a relaxing glass of wine at Highlands Bar, or taking a dip in the expansive outdoor pool that is heated to 95 degrees in the winter, you will feel at home in this unparalleled mountain retreat.

Family Activities We Love

  • If a Tree Falls in the Forest . . .
you won't be able to hear it over the wind in your ears and the roar of your snowmobile! Over 100 miles of trails through the pristine National Forest offer up breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe. Whether you are seeing the lake from 8,200 feet at the top of Mt. Watson or personalizing your own exhilarating adventure, the friendly guides of Mountain Lake Adventures, Inc., will ensure that you have the ride of your life.
  • The Village at Northstar
Just a ten-minute gondola ride away from the Ritz-Carlton resort lies a village full of dining, shopping, and ice skating possibilities. Kids will make a dash to the Tickets & Season Pass Office to sign up for snowboarding, tubing, or snowshoeing. There's something for everyone at the Village!
  • Ski In/ Ski Out
The moment you arrive at the Ritz-Carlton resort, the ski valets will ready your ski and snowboarding equipment. Simply alert the mountain concierge and the whole family will be assisted with their boots and escorted to your skis and poles waiting on the slopes. Northstar features 97 trails and 3,170 skiable acres. This area is known for its glade skiing and exciting parks and pipes. When you return for some hot cocoa, the ski valet will retrieve your equipment and store it overnight, at no additional charge to hotel guests.
  • Indoor Camp Out
Where else can you rough it without having to leave the luxury of your own room? The Ritz Kids Program for children ages 4-10, offers an indoor campout package that includes a 3'x 5' tent with Ritz-Carlton linens and featherbed, a camp light, activity book with crayons, teddy bear, and s'mores kit. Package is based on availability, so be sure to reserve early!
  • Geocaching
Search for treasure while you ski! Using a GPS handheld device, geocoaching participants locate hidden treasure boxes containing log books and trinkets within the cross-country trail network. This is fun for kids all ages--even those who are only young at heart.

Romantic Activities We Love

  • Cozy Up in a Cabin
For a couple's massage there's nothing like an escape to your very own mountain cabin. The Spa at the Ritz-Carlton's romantically illuminated spa suite will transport you there while taking you and your sweetheart on a journey of deeply relaxing aromatherapy scalp and full-body massages.
  • Vintage Boating
Nothing calls to mind the racing heritage of Lake Tahoe than a summer boating tour. Climb aboard a mahogany classic like a Hacker, Garwood or Chris Craft. Vintage Tahoe Tours supplies the captain and the boat; you make the memories.
  • Join the Team
Some would say a dog sled team is the best way to experience the majesty of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Who could argue with the thrill of exploring nature behind a team of eager huskies? Cuddle together or stand tall and learn to mush your own sled (with an experienced guide, of course).
  • (Chef’s) Table for Two
In acclaimed chef Traci Des Jardins’ restaurant Manzanita, you can enjoy an intimate dinner at the Chef’s Table, adjacent to the exposition kitchen. Interact with the chef de cuisine, who will create a tasting menu reflecting Des Jardins’ signature French-inspired California cuisine. The design of the restaurant radiates warmth and will make you feel like you are dining in the chef’s own home.
  • Heli-skiing
If you're daring enough, find the untracked fresh snow by traveling to a remote area only accessible by helicopter. Pacific Crest Heli Guides offer the only heli-skiing in Lake Tahoe. Tours leave daily from Truckee Airport at 8:00 AM.
